J..was a gotcha that got us when we upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to 2005, SQL Server went from insensitive to sensitive on the passwords..screwed up some of our integrations J

Oracle user name and passwords are case insensitive.. I think you specifically need to set them as case sensitive to override the default that they are not case sensitive..
