I think everyone that uses the email engine has experienced this problem.
 I've found that a very large message body causes the email engine to hang
(Solaris 9, ARS 6.3 and 7.5, JRE 1.5, 1.6).  Can you run jstack against the
email engine process when it is in a hung state?  jstack comes with your
JRE/JDK and it'll give you a java stack trace for each thread.  This may
help in determining why it's in the state it's in.  Due to the use of native
libraries, the output of jstack can sometimes be rather useless, but it's
worth a shot.
