When I was new to this stuff (but back then the system was not as complex as it may be now) I found that my learning path grew really fast once I started to take a view of what happens under the covers – especially the database. Its good to have a solid understanding of the database, although you could pretty much get by without knowing a damn thing about it, but then your skills would be more administrative/developer type than a real AR System application developer..
