Guess part of the issue is when the system starts up, the lack of information as to what it's doing (some older versions could sit there at a prompt doing basically nothing for 10-15 minutes) one could panic and think - since the system wasn't up - that it did affect the startup from occuring and terminate the process.

This message should have no relationship to any issue about starting the environment. I assume there is nothing else in the error log and the server service is not just taking a few minutes to get going. If you cannot get it started, I strongly suggest you open an immediate ticket with support to get their assistance.
