Guess part of the issue is when the system starts up, the lack of information as to what it's doing (some older versions could sit there at a prompt doing basically nothing for 10-15 minutes) one could panic and think - since the system wasn't up - that it did affect the startup from occuring and terminate the process.

You can initialize the AR System startup log by modifying the armonitor.conf file, and putting the –s flag in the line that has the arserver startup defined. This message should have no relationship to any issue about starting the environment. I assume there is nothing else in the error log and the server service is not just taking a few minutes to get going. If you cannot get it started, I strongly suggest you open an immediate ticket with support to get their assistance.
