Yes, I'll try and find out a bit more about it. My suspicion is that it's
there to support Crystal based reporting but that's just a guess at this point.
It may be that it's functionally the same as the 7604 version but has been
compiled to use the 8.1 API files.

I'll report back when I have some news - perhaps Levi would let us know if it
works expected?

On a related note, one problem I've run into is that now that I'm using 64-bit
Office the ODBC driver can't be used as it's 32-bit.

Mark, would you be able to do some digging to find out about arodbc81.dll? I
am sure this is a very interesting find for many of us.

The driver.exe is shipped with the server, it’s not something specific provided
by Michael. It’s documented here
https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars81/Using+the+driver+program

You need to get a copy from an 8.1 server as that will be linked to use the 8.1
supporting dlls rather than the 7.x versions you’re trying to use below.

I must admit that I wasn’t aware that there was an arodbc81.dll, I’m not sure
if it will provide the same functionality as the one that used to ship with the
User Tool.

Mark,

The driver.exe app is something, I’m guessing, that Michael Boling built that
loads the 7.6.03 or 7.1 drivers and attempts to make basic calls using those
DLLs to ensure you have connectivity before actually running the installation.

Unless I am mistaken, there is an 8.1 ODBC driver, BMC just hides it. It is
located on the Mid Tier server buried here: %mid tier directory%\WEB-INF\lib\

Here is a screenshot where I have gathered all the respective dll files similar
to this Michael’s 7.1 & 7.6.03 packages, they are all in that Mid Tier
directory.

This is why I wanted to get in touch with this Michael because he has the
driver.exe hard coded to use either the arapi71 or the arapi7603_build001 dlls
for the respective packages. If he could compile something that used the
arapi81_build001 dll then, in theory, 8.1 ODBC driver package would work just
like these other two.

At least that was my line of thinking.

There isn’t an 8.1 ODBC driver – the latest version is 7.6.04 as this was the
last version of the User Tool which this component shipped with. I think you
may be getting confused about what the driver.exe included in the packages
linked from the KB actually is. It’s not the ODBC driver, it is a client which
can be used to connect to a Remedy server and make API calls. The KB suggests
using this to verify connectivity to the server. It’s the arodbc*.dll file
which is the actual ODBC driver.

We are looking for the 8.1 ODBC driver setup for our clients to install on
their local machines and in this KB Article a Michael Boling built one for 7.1
& 7.6.03.
https://kb.bmc.com/infocenter/index?page=content&id=KA289117

I was able to get my hands on all of the appropriate 8.1 equivalent DLLs as are
in his packages but I need help updating this driver.exe package to get it to
work with the 8.1 drivers.
