Added the appropriate settings (below) to the server.xml file for tomcat
and then re-started. 

<Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
 connectionTimeout="20000" redirectPort="8443" 
 scheme="https" proxyName="loadbalancerfqdn" proxyPort="8443"
