Good question... As far as I know the API itself has to work as we use the 64bit java client without any issues. We've managed to compile it against the 32bit library, but that's as far as we've managed to take it. This is on GNU Unix.
So based on the premises, it appears to be issues at the C/C++ code used within ARSperl.
