Yes - that is part of the visual identity: Everybody must recognize the product even by the updated logo.

I think this could be possible. As we want to change the logo's font there are such possibilities IMHO. Perhaps we need one or another proposal to discuss about.
The logo does need to show progression Style wise, but not theme wise.
If the product includes a new main theme, the logo could be changed as well, but for OpenOffice.org this is not the case, i think.
