Kreatifitas seniman memang mencengangkan. Kreatifitas memang tidak pernah bisa dibayangkan, bahkan tidak dapat pula secara ilmiah diprediksikan. ‘Out of the box’ adalah uniqueness seniman. Seperti ketika Jansen Jasien kembali membuat decak kagum dengan rekaman sejarah melalui ujung dupa kali ini. Goresan-goresan penuh makna, antara ‘content’ dengan ‘tools’. Antara pengapresiasian makna visual dalam karya yang ada, dengan alat yang digunakan mencipta pemaknaan-pemaknaan itu. Semua menyimpan banyak interpretasi. Seperti tema pameran “Surabaya di Ujung Dupa”. Dupa dalam pameran ini menerbangkan imajinasi kita. Juga mempertanyakan apa maunya Jansen Jasien. Dupa tidak sekedar menebarkan aromanya. Dia pun melayangkan asapnya. Sekaligus selalu mempertanyakan kemana asap itu membawa pergi dan menerbangkan angan-angan kita. Jansen Jasien seakan membawa emosi kita teraduk-aduk. Dan ujung dupa tidak sekadar se-elastis asapnya yang meliukkan tarian indah di cakrawala. Tetes dan torehan tinta dari ujung dupa pun menari di media kanvas bahkan kertas, sambilmengusung pesan visual yang liar, unik, dan menyejarah. Semua keterbatasan media, yang kali ini lewat ujung dupa, nyatanya bukan masalah di tangan Jansen Jasien. Seolah terbata-bata menarik garis-garis estetikanya, Jansen membawa eksotika dupa dan media tinta gayut dengan estetika berkeseniannya. Dupa yang kadang membawa rupa magis, membuat karya-karya sketsa Jansen Jasien kali ini menjurus kesana pula. ‘Surabaya di Ujung Dupa’ telah membawa karya Jansen Jasien larut dalam emosi berbeda para pengamatnya. Seperti pula karya-karya yang dihadirkan Jansen menjadi pusaran penasaran yang lain lagi. Sebagian penikmat pun mungkin sempat bertanya pula, kenapa dengan kondisi kota, hingga diungkap denganfrase “Surabaya di Ujung Dupa”. Dan kesetiaan Jansen Jasien pada sejarah Surabaya yang otentik adanya, diantara pintu masuk mencari jawaban atas tanya itu. Dupa seakan tamsil, bahwa sejarah peradapan kota ini, jangan sekadar nyala, redup, mati lalu membekas sekadar abu. Tamsil dupa bukan mengada-ada. Inilah keseharian Jansen ketua kelompok Pekerja Seni Pecinta Sejarah atau KPSPS Surabaya. Yang mengakrabi dupa seakan nafasnya. Dupa sekutunya, waktu kantuk menyeruduk tengah malam di studio lukisnya di Krian. Juga teknik dan media yang sengaja ia jumput. Dan lahirlah tarikan-tarikan spontan dari batang dupa itu. Lewat ujung dupa yang sudah terbakar dan terhirup aromanya, jadilah goreran lukisan sketsa tentang kota, bak sperma aktif yang menyeruak kemana-mana. Seakan ekspresi dinamis bagaimana aktivitas warga kota ini. Goresan terbatas dupa kadang meliuk pendek. Meski juga sering menggerus panjang, hadirkan banyak kejutan guratan visual. Apalagi sesekali Jansen Jasien mengawinkannya pula dengan goresan kuas spontan tebal tipis yang susah ditebak. Padu padan ini seakan kesadaran ingin hadirkan cermin sejarah kota Surabaya, yang kaya akan keberagamannya. Spontan emosinya. Kalau kemudian Jansen Jasien menyapa pemerhati dan pecinta lukisannya dengan elemen-elemen Jawa, China, Arab atau bahkan Belanda; maka itu Surabaya pula. Sebuah cerita total tentang kota kesayangannya. Dupa membawa juga misi utama, ketika dia kadang menjadi media reliji manusia. Terlihat Jansen Jasien menuangkan semua ekspresi nurani dangejolak batinnya dalam pusaran goresan ujung dupanya. Pusaran-pusaran itu memusat menuju inti kehidupan relijinya, fokus pada ketuhanannya. Peradaban bangsa ini memang catatan-catatan juga aspek rohani warga-negaranya. Lewat ujung dupa, Jansen Jasien mewakilinya. Human’s creativity will never be imagined or even scientifically predicted. ‘Out of the box’ is the artist’ uniqueness. Just like JANSEN JASIEN amazed us (again) by displaying his historical record paintings through the tip of incenses Meaningful scratches are such a perfect combination between contents and tools. It is also appreciation visual meaning in the painting, when the artist with his tool, composing various meanings and messages. All this mixture, ends in thousand interpretations, in “Surabaya di Ujung Dupa” (Surabaya at Incense’s Tip) Exhibition. Incenses in this artwork exhibition will fly our imagination up. This Exhibition also questioning JANSEN JASIEN’s intention. Incenses will not only spread their scent, their aroma. The incenses will spread its smoke. Audiences will always wondering, where the smoke take our imagination away. JANSEN JASIEN is twisting our emotion. Thus, the incenses’ tip is not just elastic as its smoke that wandering in the sky. The artist is stagnate draw its esthetic lines; JANSEN brings the incense’s exotic, coloring ink to meet his aesthetic artworks. Thus . . . the incenses bring the magic atmosphere reveal in the work of JANSEN JASIEN. ‘Surabaya di Ujung Dupa’ presents JANSEN JASIEN art work twisted into various emotional appreciations from its audiences. JANSEN JASIEN once again throws other thousand vexed questions. As some audiences also questioning, what about the city anyway, for JANSEN JASIEN reveals the city in the “Surabaya di Ujung Dupa”. JANSEN JASIEN’s loyalty to Surabaya’s authentically history is the passage to answer those questions. Incenses are symbolizing the city. JANSEN JASIEN captured the city as the incenses bright shining, fading, and turn into ashes away. Incenses are resemblance of JANSEN JASIEN. This is the whole life of JANSEN JASIEN, the Chief of Surabaya Historical Lover Artist Club. This Artist will take a very deep air full of incenses’ scent to breathe. The incenses are the artist’s loyal companion, to meet his desire in composing his paintings. Incenses are also the technique and media the Artist used, in composing his artworks. Thus. . Suddenly the artist drawn several spontaneous lines, performing his masterpiece of artwork. From the scent of those burning incenses, various sketches describing the city revealed. It is such a dynamic activity, conduct by this entire citizen. Whether it is short or in longer scratches, the incense’s tip dancing beautifully. Those lines show thousand shocking visual scratches.
