Hi BIl,
First, please note that when working with MySQL, Artifactory 3.x support
MySQL v5.5 and above with InnoDB engine which is the default in this
version, so if you are planning to work with MySQL, the first thing will be
to install MySQL 5.5+.
The '#binary.provider.type=filesystem' is commented out in the default
storage.properties file, however, this is still the default as this value
initialized with ‘filesystem’ value in case that there is no other input
from the ‘storage.properties’ file.
I'm not sure if you are planning to fulldb mode or filesystem for binaries
and DB for metadata, however, you should know that it is recommended to use
the second method (filesystem for binaries and DB for metadata).
Once you will have MySQL 5.5 installed, the upgrading process from 2.6.6 to
3.x should be the same as in the wiki page:
Upgrading from 2.6.6 to 3.x and above:

You should also make sure you are not missing the 'Upgrading When Binaries
are Stored in the Database' section under the above link.
