Hi, Filesystem storage working fine here. You should be able to symlink your data directory and leave the database local. (We did that, so our data storage and backups directories are NAS-backed over NFS.)
Not sure I'd want to upload multi-GB files over a WAN connection all the time, though. Might get sticky.
