Sr SQL DBA Bloomington, MN 6 month + MusT BE LOCAL TO MN Job Purpose: The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for maintaining all relational database systems at CLIENT. The DBA ensures our critical production databases are available, performing efficiently, secure, and scalable for the future, as well as being able to research, design, implement, and maintain new database systems with minimal guidance. The DBA also supports application development teams at CLIENT, helping to deploy high performing solutions that will serve our business into the future. Additionally the DBA also supports the BI team with ETL and occasional SQL development. Organizational/Reporting Structure: The Database Administrator reports to the Enterprise Applications Manager. The BI/DB team is part of the IT department, which is lead by the IT director, and reports to the CFO/COO. The BI/DB team is responsible for BI/reporting tools, ETL, Data Warehousing, and all enterprise database systems at CLIENT. The BI/DB team serves both internal and external customers. Job Tasks, Responsibilities, Accountabilities: Main Thing One: Enterprise Database Administration Support the day-to-day maintenance and administration of CLIENTs database systems. Focused on Microsoft SQL Server. Actively works to keep CLIENTs infrastructure standardized but supports other DBMSs when needed (such as Oracle and PostgreSQL). Ensure that databases are backed up, secure, and performing efficiently. Also, works to define, implement, and enforce disaster recovery and retention SLAs. Takes ownership of issues, and ensures they are resolved quickly. Actively monitors all database systems and recommends improvements to CLIENTs database systems and applications while following industry standards and best practices. Work with other IT staff to get recommendations tested and implemented. Owner of database security. Works extensively with Active Directory and SQL server user administration and enforces policies using group logins, roles, and permissions. Develops and maintains database support documentation, including system inventory and works with licensing administrator on compliance. Automation. Continually looks for ways to automate repetitive tasks at the database, server, and enterprise levels. Coordinates and takes ownership of enterprise databases hosted and supported by 3rd parties. Mentors other staff on database administration best practices Job Qualifications: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Bachelors degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent work experience 4+ years experience managing multiple Microsoft SQL Server databases in a highly available production environment Extensive knowledge of SQL agend scheduled jobs for T-SQL, Powershell, SSIS, and distributed transactions via linked servers Extensive knowledge of performance tuning using dynamic management views, SQL proviler (or extended events), schema and index design. Experience identifying and resolving database performance issues at the system, OS, instance, database and code level. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Some previous SQL programming experience working with stored procedures, functions, triggers, mail, and service broker queries.
