Local Gay Columnist Dane Hall Launches "Pride Perspective" column in local newspaper
"Thank you, Evil Bush," is how local columnist Dane Hall launched his re-entry into local Asbury Park newspaper columns today. Pointing to the way that the Bush political team used gays and lesbians and the issue of gay marriage in last November's general election, Hall wrote, "By slicing this country down the middle with a social cleaver, [Bush] had smiled in victory as many of us, Americans, lay gaping and bloodied." First up, Wachovia Securities and GayAsburyPark.com will host a seminar on the Legal and Financial issues gay and lesbian couples face now that they can take advantage of New Jersey's Domestic Partner Act. The seminar will be given by two presenters -- a financial advisor and an attorney. The topics of discussion will include: estate, tax and retirement planning; adoptions and second parent adoptions; how to take advantage of recent tax laws; health care decisions; growing and preserving wealth; the future of marriage and domestic partnership. The seminar is free and open to everyone. Location: Black Box Theater, 605 Mattison Ave, Third Floor, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.
Later that night, the downtown gang brings you the return of First Saturday Night when Downtown Asbury Park comes alive as over 30 businesses band together to celebrate Mardi Gras and keep their doors open until 10 pm for a celebration of community spirit.
