Joe - the city stopped them - zippo police back then in those places - where drugs and prostitution ran rampant - at least if you drove by. The economy back then then was 0 and Asbury could be ranked a negative 1000. NO banks were giving money - let alone anyone "crazy" enough to buy into AP. I sat with more banks, the SBA and plenty more who looked and said "you're nuts". Up until last year, they were right.
The city has no money (y'a wonder...) or was it a massive attempt in such towns like Long Branch and AP to in effect, promote blight for the future benefit of certain others - others who still exist in play. There have been plans since the early 60's to "Redevelop" AP. Then someone could tell you interesting stories from the late 30's. Don;t forget, people, beside fishman, have made multi-millions by playing the AP game. Others - have lost. In the end, it all depends who you play with. Yahoo!
