there was an article in yesterday's asbury park press about howard johnson's chains with a picture of the one on the boardwalk(business section). the owner (george) wouldn't comment for the article.  why do you think that is?  i'm not clear on where the howard johnson's fits in the redevelopment 'plans.'  i think i read here that they recently declared the structure not safe and I saw that there is now fencing all around it.

thanks for any insight.

Restaurant icon HoJo's close to disappearing

"With this month's closing of a HoJo's in Springfield, Vt., there
are now only eight left in Maine, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey,
Maryland and New York, Mann said. The Howard Johnson's in New York
City's Times Square is reportedly going to close in June."

btw, if anyone reads Fark.com, Asbury Partners is getting some love
in the Fark forums:

"The Howard Johnson's resturant in Asbury Park, NJ (don't know how
many others in NJ there are, probably just the one), hosts an art
show each month. So maybe this one is better than the others?"

That HoJo in Asbury Park is probably the only left open there.
Everything in Asbury Park is either closed, falling apart, or being
torn down. The Three Ocean blocks are known as the Ghetto by the
Sea. Driving down Ocean Ave is like going through a War Zone. Do
they still have the unfinished abbandoned High Rise still in middle
of 2nd and 3rd avenues?
