That old NY Times article should be proof enough that my understanding of Asbury Park history far outweighs Werners.
He and I have debated before the issuse of whether Bradly wanted the public to own the Beachfront or not. Werner's postion, espoused ad nauseum at council meetings, is that Bradley's desire was that the people of Asbury Park would own and control the beachfront for their purposes in perpetuity. Oh how nice! He NEVER EVER gave any facts from which he drew that conclusion. I always took the opposite postion. I said Bradley never wanted the people ot have it, and he wished to keep it privately owned for himself. I did have facts upon which I drew that conclusion. I said that there was eventually a lawsuit instituted wherein the City wanted to wrest control of the beach from Bradley. He reluctenly settled it for $100,000.00. That proves he didn't want the people to own and control it. See the differece there? I drew my conclusion based upon historical facts. Werner has no facts upon which he drew his conclusion. None. Now take a look at that newpaper article. It makes clear Bradley DID NOT WANT public ownership of the beach. He wanted to keep it. It supports what I've been saying for years, and is contrary to what Werner has been concluding. Now here is something for the future, not the past. I predict there are people on this board that are far more partisan than I am. There is no way they will concede Werner is dead wrong even though objective proof has just be posted to this board. They will ignore history not to say Werner is wrong, just as Werner does. Maybe someone will be objective and look at the facts and admit whose conclusion the facts support. Anyone up to the challenge? There's only one historian here. That's me. Yahoo!
