Read this carefully. One part really stands out "Briggs said that due
to the gang activity in Asbury Park, her 17-year-old son is
afraid to talk about any illegal activity he may see."
What people like Allan don't seem to get is that he's really not part
of the community most effected by the gang problem, so he really
doesn't get what a big problem it is. He's worried about property
values, which is fine, but right now that should not be the main
priority of our city. Resolving the crime problem is.

ASBURY PARK — Authorities continue to investigate a shooting on
Mattison Avenue as gang-related. A woman who was shot in the head
outside a residence last night was transported to Jersey Shore
University Medical Center, where she died.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office has not yet released the
identity of the
murdered woman. The murder was apparently a retaliation killing by
members of the Bloods gang, according to a law enforcement source.

A memorial with a white and pink teddy bear angel and four balloons
marked the spot where the woman was shot.

Residents in the neighborhood were uneasy this morning.

"A young lady? What's next? It could be me,''said Kathy Briggs, 49,
who lives around the corner from the shooting. "A bullet doesn't know
anybody's name.''

Briggs said that due to the gang activity in Asbury Park, her
17-year-old son is
afraid to talk about any illegal activity he may see.

Earle Morgan, 63, has lived in Asbury Park for 40 years. "All you hear
about now is gangs...That's all that's been happening. Once a week.
Once a month. People are getting shot.''
