The Sunset Ave Pavilion, East of the BCHotel, was built to replace the original pavilion of 1925 as part of the original BCH design. There was a bridge over Ocean Ave to the roof deck of the original pavilion.
The roof was open for a sunbathing area with enclosed solariums at the North and South ends. A central staircase went down to the boardwalk. Burned in the 60s along with part of the boardwalk, it was replaced by the building there now. The bridge was never replaced, however the "new" pavilion was designed to accomodate a bridge in the future. The locker rooms are on the second floor and instead of a tunnel to the beach there was a fancy spiral ramp along with exterior 'skywalks'. The ground floor was shops and public restrooms. Placing the lockers on the 2nd floor anticipated restoration of the BCH bridge. Patrons would have been able to exit the Hotel and walk over the bridge. Once in the lockerroom level, change into beachwear and exit via the spiral ramps/skywalks to the beach. Or, if not bathing, just walk down the central stairs to the boardwalk level. The key to the BCH/Pavilion is restoration of the Bridge! Werner Yahoo!
