Yesterday, I took a bike ride to the boardwalk, fully prepared to
dismount and walk my bike. As I was doing so, about 5 bicycles passed
me and the 3 cops that were hanging out at the entrance to CH. The
cops were deep in conversation and didn't even notice the bikes
passing by. I walked my bike about halfway to the Casino, and after
noticing about 2 dozen other cyclists riding by, I got on my bike and
rode the rest of the way, passing 2 more cops.
I noticed that the beach rules sign has been updated to show the new
hours that riding is allowed, but why aren't the police paying any
attention?
The person who posted earlier about the cyclists riding all over the
boardwalk is correct, but he needs to realize that if the people don't
know what the rules are, and if those rules aren't being enforced then
how are they to know they are doing anything wrong. To me, a bunch of
other cyclists on the boardwalk says it's ok to ride there.
I really don't understand why a simple bike lane hasn't been painted
on the boardwalk. AP has an opportunity to be progressive with bikes
on the boardwalk and promote responsible bike riding.
