It's a good article but the key word in the whole thing that ties it all together is technology - the Internet. Using A-Rod, his worth today is not just on-base percentage - but how many A-Rod shirts will be sold at the stadium or rights will be sold to produce, how mamny tix will he alone sell? Those eyes in China FI they have Internet access to go to MLB.com or sat. That's why MLB and the pro sprots are reaching out for players from other countries - a gamble that they will be a star here in America translates to millons and millons in sales on that home country. Or, from the Franceco Rinaldi web site ):- if you're out in the mid-west and can't get it -go online and order it and they will ship to you. Like people who can't get "boardwalk" hot dogs in Florida or Texas or Michigan - the Internet enables them to find it and hopefully get it. Almost anyone can start a business or become a publisher in minutes and with a pennies in advertising, be seen and read. There are no longer the barriers to entry - the startup costs. No real estate, no product and no distrubution barriers. The costs to fail on the Internet are next to nothing. The article could continue- like ask questions what is an Internet company really worth - or the value of Ford?? Yahoo!
