More is involved then just the reduction in the hourly fee paid for legal
fees . the Republicans are attempting to extend contact for the auditors for
another year. All appointments should be held-up until the new Freehold
board takes office in January!

Please attend the Freeholder's meeting, tomorrow at 7:00PM in the Hall of
Records, 1 E. Main St., Freehold to show your support for the incoming
Democratic majority! The more people we have attending and showing support
will make them thing again about pulling their plans off!

Thanks,

Michael

The Monmouth County Democrats have begun to roll out their transition
details for the county government, starting with a 10 percent cut in hourly
fees paid to county lawyers. A resolution calling for the change will be
considered by the freeholder board at its meeting on Thursday.

The board will have a Democratic majority in January for the first time
since 1986. Freeholder-elect Amy A. Mallet defeated Republican John Curley
in last month's election for the decisive seat.

Democratic Freeholder Barbara J. McMorrow said the current legal fees for
county lawyers range from $155 to $125 per hour, depending on the type of
work.

"In these tough economic times, when families are trying to tighten their
belts wherever possible, government must do the same," McMorrow said on
Tuesday. "Reducing legal fees is a needed first step in the process of
reducing the expense of county government."

Republicans said they will consider supporting the change.

"I look forward to a good discussion about this, but I want to make sure
that while saving the taxpayers as much money as possible, we can also
retain the best legal representation," Republican Freeholder Robert D.
Clifton said.

Clifton said prospective county attorneys "are unlikely to be happy," but
added, "In this economy, just to be working is desirable."

Another transition topic is the fate of a controversial Republican-sponsored
administrative code proposal, which will be discussed Thursday at the 1 p.m.
workshop meeting.

The business meeting is at 7 p.m. Both sessions will take place at the Hall
of Records, 1 E. Main St., Freehold.

Freeholder John D'Amico, a Democrat, said rules are needed to clarify lines
of authority and responsibility in the county government, but said the
proposed code "is poorly drafted, incomplete, incoherent, inconsistent with
the structure of Monmouth County government, and incompatible with needed
changes and reforms."
