NEWS RELEASE

ASBURY PARK, NJ-- Asbury Park has long been known as a great place for fun
and entertainment. We know the most celebrated entertainers have played
Convention Hall, the Rainbow Room or the Berkeley Carteret. But that was only
half of Asbury's music story. How about dancing the night away at the
Hampton Inn, Madonna's or the State Ballroom—all on Springwood Avenue.?

Artscap invites you to step back in time with local music legends and an
historian, for a look at music on the City's West side, from the 40s to the
80s. The event will take place at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Prospect
Avenue in Asbury, on April 10, from 3-5 p.m. The afternoon will include a
panel discussion moderated by local musician, music educator and
bandleader, Dorian Parreott.

This event is part of the year-long “Asbury Park Musical Heritage 2011
Celebration” which also includes the Smithsonian Institution' exhibition “New
Harmonies”at the Asbury Park Library until April 17th.

Panelists for this afternoon with Jazz and R&B musicians, who have played
on Springwood
Avenue and far beyond include Clifford Johnson, Dee Holland, Al Wright,
Desi Norman and R&B Artists from the Broadways singing group as well as Bobby
Thomas of the Vibranairs.

The audience will also be invited to share their memories and stories from
“back in the day”.

Local historian Rainette Holimon will be on hand , as will Madonna Carter
Jackson, Asbury Park native and author of “Asbury Park a West Side Story”.

Refreshments and a chance to meet the artists will follow along with a
photo exhibit of the Springwood Ave clubs, singers and musicians.
