Its actually very usable only if you have at least some basic
understanding how (la)tex works.
For me it more clear and usable than docbook to generate a
document.The nice thing is that
asciidoc does all the generation of tags which I had to type normaly
by hand. I use it for
my Traineeship report with the latex backend. It needs still some
tweaking but it's not
a pain. And at work I have to use a windows machine and Texlive works
like a charm, don't know
about docbook. But spending almost a few hours to get some simpel
layout changing done was enough
for me to not use it anymore. I don't boycot docbook but for me its
just a matter of taste. And
let other people free :-)
