I think the git hook is really nice to generate stuff automagically, but
I don't think it's a good replacement for a wiki, especially if the
point is to have it edited by not-really-controled people (like,
volunteers).

Sure, but who will volunteer to take care of it if it's engineered like
that? If the point is to have a website with asciidoc tips, generated
using asciidoc and under control of few people, having access to a
repository, well, fine, but imho the current asciidoc home page already
plays that role (and maybe Stuart would love to accept patches for
documentation, tips etc.) (and even provide commit access to few people,
I don't know?)
