i've been playing with aspseek (1.2.10, rh7.2, installing from rpm files) and mnogosearch since yesterday. aspseek seems to index pages faster, and searches are much faster too (my data is +- 1.4GB, 160k documents). three problems/questions:
1. i'm having difficulty telling 'index' to use other data directory other than /var/aspseek. i've created my own conf files, and have specified DataDir. but 'index' seems to insist on creating /var/aspseek/DBNAME. anything i missed? 2. is there an equivalent of apache's ServerRoot directive so i can specify relative paths in Include's? i am using my own conf files and it would be nice if every time i specify Include directive i don't have to do a full path Include /my/own/foo.conf. currently i have to do this because 'index' always looks to /etc/aspseek. 3. can i do searches without searchd? my site is hosted in a shared hosting and the hoster's policy seems to be against daemon/long-running processes. thanks in advance, -- dave
