Manusia lebih mudah untuk mengingat huruf daripada angka (IP), sedangkan komputer hanya mengenal angka (IP), oleh karena itu diperlukan DNS untuk menjembatani antara huruf dan angka (IP) tersebut. Jika anda tidak memasukan DNS tetapi tetap dapat konek ke internet, berarti anda memakai setting-an automatic, dimana segala sesuatu mengenai IP, subnet, gateway, dan DNS telah di sediakan secara otomatis oleh provider internet untuk mempermudahkan anda.
