This happened to me when I first installed the google toolbar in IE.
 
Make sure that you don't any google or other browser toolbars installed.  I 
know the google toolbar will color the background of a control yellow when you 
use its auto fill button.  This is supposed to let you know that it's a control 
that it recognizes and can auto populate with a click of a button on the 
toolbar.
