And what if you replace co-counsel in your text with, for example, coZZHYPENZZcounsel, then add that to your dictionary, replace all occurances of co-counsel in your texts with that, rerun aspell check (coZZZHYPENZZZcouncel will still be one character far from coZZZHYPENZZZcounsel so everything will work) and correct errors. After you do that for all words with hypen, you just need to turn ZZZHYPENZZZ back to -.
