[aspell] Can't build aspell 0.32.1 on redhat 6.2

Using gcc 2.95.2 (with the pentium optimization patch. but I get the
same problem if I use plain vanilla gcc 2.95.2) I can
build aspell fine, UNTIL it goes to produce some dictionary files. Then
it segfaults. Nothing I've tried seems to alleviate the problem.

Ideas?
