Your first assumption is correct. There is no way for the server to know
when the browser closes, since the connection has already been severed.
Various workarounds have been suggested, like using an onclose event in the
browser, but of course these usually aren't 100% successful.

I dont think it does, but am just crurious. If it does know, should
not sessionend event (or sessionabandon) fire?
