The answer to this is simple READ CAREFULLY this is 30 years of wisdom in a short mail
1. read http://learnasp.com/learn/sessionoverview.asp The session end happens after 20 minutes of inactivity and due to bugginess it MAY not always happen. 2. Smart developers building ultra-reliable systems store "token" data in sessions and real data in Databases. Anything someone tells you you want to keep you put in a Database IMMEDIATELY then and associate all that database data with a token. Then you always have all their data even if session end NEVER fires. 3. Its ok for speed to keep a copy of DB Data in the session (although ASP.net cache objects would be 1000 x better place) to save DB hits to read it but DB hits are not as bad as you think if coded well.
