Yeah I looked in there and the only JS files are un crystalreporst webform
viewer. I mean this is the only site on the same machine I have the problems
with. All the other sites work without issues. And the prompt comes up but
you can hit cancel and view the page so it is not needing the password to
get in but just tosses it up for no apparent reason........

That's sounds like a permissions problem, since you see it only when you
turn on the validation I would check/reset the permissions of the JavaScript
files down in the aspnet_client folder.

Report Abuse

I have added the following required field validator to a simple form and it
is causing a password prompt to popup:

<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ControlToValidate="FullName"
ErrorMessage="Required" ID="rfvName" runat="server" /><BR>

How can I get rid of the password prompt?

Thanks, Justin.

Check the IIS security settings on the aspnet_client directory,
subdirectories, and .js files underneath. Perhaps someone has removed
anonymous access to the directories.

I traced it all down to the validator controls in asp.net. As long as I
don't add any there is no PROmpt. But say I add one then it prompts.

<asp:RequiredFieldValidator id="ValidatorLoginID" runat="server"
ControlToValidate="LoginID" ErrorMessage="Missing
LoginID"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

If I add that one validation to the page then it prompts. I have not had
this problem in the other sites on the same server. I also have validation
on the login page. But this page for some reason gives a prompt if I put
validation... WHAT IS CAUSING IT??? And why would it on this page but none
of the other pages. There is nothing different about any of the
pages..........

Importance: High

There is all the code. BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. I can run this exact same
page on another server and no PROMPT! And it is just this one page not any
other pages on the entire application. It seems to only happen when I
display  <asp:Panel id="PanelAddLogin" runat="server"> this panel...... and
it only happens on this machine and not another server that we have. I think
it might have to do with frontpage extensions or something.

machine that it gives prompt on is windows 2003

the other one that has no problems is windows 2000

I have been on google but there isn't anywhere that explains this issue. It
is some type of strange permissions as that is why a prompt appears.
