I actually think that the issue is with my data.  The onPreRender seems to
be the spot to interrogate the data but my string which is a NAS location
looks like this: \\someLocation\srcr2tst$\test\somefiles\011\Inbound\Data\.
I can't seem to read this in.  I am reading it in like this: String dest_a =
((Label)dataGridItem_A.FindControl("Destination_A")).Text;  Any idea how I
can tell it to escape?  I thought I could just stick a @ in front of it but
the compiler doesn't like that.

Sorry, I haven't done anything with onPreRender. Have you tried putting 
TRACE="Trrue" in your @ Page directive and do some Trace.Warn entries in 
your code.
