This is not an easy question. The number of pages is determined by the rendering of its contents. Many factors affect rendering such as the GUI program, or the printer (and its properties), and the actual contents (grpahics, text, etc.). So if you have access to the rendered data you might know. If you load a Word document, you can programmactically access MS Word and query the document (via COM). Probably it's possible to get the number of pages available.
