        At least maybe I got you to look at the correct spot again...
And now I know slightly more than absolutely nothing about log4net from
my time reading their config documentation.

fixed my problem....

log4net.Config.BasicConfigurator.Configure();

should have been:

log4net.Config.DOMConfigurator.Configure();


basically that line loads the .config file.
