Ok, now I understand, I think Ryan and Jonathan hit the nail on the head
though. You need to have your Command button trigger a method (usually in a
code behind) that will then collect the alias and store them. Depending on
what you need to do with them and what your host provided either access or xml
will do. To display them a look into creating a data collection (datalist,
dataset, ect) and binding it to some sort of control to render it. I think you
said you were a non-professional so as you have specific question regarding the
collecting or retrieving of the data just ask. A great starting place for 2.0
is www.asp.net tutorial section. I don't use 2.0 at work yet since we have
about 100 applications to regression test so I can't whip up a sample for you.
basically though that tutorial will show you all of it.

I'm using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition.

What I am wanting to do is create a list of aliases that I use for a mud
related game. What I mean by
aliases is "alias don e;e;e" This will allow me to type don and that will move
myself  east 3 times.

I want the alias list to show up on gosh.aspx page and keep it on that page.

  hey Jeff,
  Can you explain to me what you mean by aliases and what you want to do with
them? Basically explain in English not code what you want to do. I am having
trouble following what you "business process" is. I may have something I can
cannibalize to help you. Also what IDE are you coding in vs.net 2003?

  Goodness, this was really supposed to be easy. The concept behind my webpage
was to be able to allow me to put in aliases for myself. (seven hours later) I
now turn to you professionals.
  For example:

  Type in the alias I want here.

  Post the alias I made down here and keep it.
  So next time I come back it is already there
  and I can add another alias. This is what I have
  here so far. The webpage name I am working with is gosh.aspx

  <html>
  <head></head>
  <body>
  <form runat="server" method="POST" action="gosh.aspx">
  Enter your aliases:<br />
  <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
  <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" />
  <br />
  eg: cot-coc n;w;n;n;e;n;n;enter<br />
  <br />
  Your aliases will be added to this list:<br />
  <br />
  cot-coc n;w;n;n;e;n;n;enter<br />
  potions get potion;drink potion<br />
  <br /><br />
  </form>
  </body>
  </html>
