Be aware if you are doing file uploading in your asp app, mail servers, etc. that virus scanners can cause some conflicts.
They have GREAT value in some applications, and horrible consequences in others (unpredictable errors caused by them blocking files). Also realize just because a file gets on a server doesn't mean it can be executed, i.e. nobody is "clicking it" there. I'm not saying don't run one, I'm just saying think about the repercussions of running one before you roll out a server side anti-virus to all boxes. As to what people run - Norton I think is the most popular installed package. I've seen a lot of places that just do an online scan from time to time, and others that have a workstation scan the drive from time to time - That more tells you yes, something did get on the box than stopping it from happening though. I believe it's a few hundred dollars / server. I'd like more information on this myself. There are some server-specific anti-virus packages out there ($2,000/server) which claim to scan files *only* if they're modified (after the initial scan). Norton claims to do the same for much less, so I'm skeptical of the diversity in claims and pricing. Sam Yahoo!
