We have an IMMEDIATE need for a Data Architect, for a 6 - 9 month (possible extension) consulting assignment in Baltimore, MD. Role: The Data Architect will be responsible for designing and developing all OLTP and Data Warehousing database systems in support of all applications. Will act as the primary resource in determining the overall architecture of how the client's data is managed throughout the entire infrastructure. Will need to be able to understand business/end user requirements and be able to convert into data requirements, the varying types of data storage mechanisms and designs, industry standard, logical and physical database designs and approaches, and be able to successfully design and implement a large-scale, enterprise-wide data infrastructure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Responsible for all aspects of the design, development and delivery of data systems for all of the business applications. * Design, implement and deliver the architecture for client's enterprise data systems to include: development of data standards, logical and physical data modeling of OLTP and data warehousing systems, selection of appropriate data systems that will meet the ever growing demands of our business from OLTP to analytical needs, design and implementation of database systems throughout the enterprise and overall exceeds the expectations of the business as they specifically relate to data needs. * Lend support to various business and technology teams as necessary during design, development and delivery to ensure solid, scalable, robust solutions. * Communicate effectively in both verbal (i.e. day-to-day discussions, team meetings) and written (requirements and design specifications) form, as well as have an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications. * Accurately determine, assign, track and manage project task, activity, documentation, time information per internal standards. * Accurately assess the risks associated with each solution design/project. * Support the development of team members from a professional and technical level. * Effectively manage multiple priorities. * Perform additional job-related duties as requested. Required Skills: * Solid hands-on experience in designing and implementing data systems, architectures and data technologies: OLTP, data warehouse, data marts, OLAP, logical and physical designs, relational and dimensional designs, object models, database schema and application design, and normalization and functional dependency techniques. * Knowledge and experience in data warehouse related schema design (star schemas, dimension/fact tables, snowflake schemas) and associated design-related tools. * Experience with enterprise-wide data systems and architectures, including applications that require high transactional throughput and fast response times, multi-tiered architectures and multi-vendor data systems design. * Strong decision making and problem solving skills (i.e. design, debugging and testing) and experience with data/database projects. * Experience with applying and general knowledge of various data methodologies and models. * Demonstrated leadership and attention to detail skills through prior experience at the strategic and tactical/implementation levels. * Ability to coach, mentor and train personnel within a technical organization. * Strong leadership, resource allocation and planning skills/experience with large, complex data systems/projects. Education/Experience: * Bachelor's degree in IT-related field, AND * At least 8 (eight) years of relevant experience, OR * Relevant combination of education and experience. * Preferred: Master's degree in IT-related field, experience with Oracle, ERWin, Business Objects, and formal training in data modeling techniques and methods.
