Hi,
Just now in the bus I did a Good Samaritan act and immediately regretted it. There was this guy who got in a Rockville Metro Station and came right to the end of the bus where I was sitting and said " Phone? -- Phone Amigo??" He thought I was a Latino. Good. I said no. Then he asked around. Gesturing that he needed to make a fast call.
I happened to notice that he was a young Middle Eastern , probably going to Montgomery College like me - the next stop. He was dressed in a colorful shirt with red cars on it - and black kneee length trousers and fancy sports shoes - like a student but had a shaved head, athletic body and muslim style trimmed beard and mushtache. He lloked like a US brought up guy with his slang etc.
I thought he was a student and in a hurry to call his friend. So I gave me my cell phone.
As he focused on making the call (240-848-3027) I started worrying that it might be to someone who might turn out to be a terrorist later on. And why would he call from my phone. Why not such a rich looking guy carry a cell phone like everyone else. He called somone called Abdul and started talking in American slang - which was undecipherable for me - though seemed to be taliking in a jaunty manner to a young guy.
Then he called another number(240-426-8130) after taking my approval but hung up.
I was recalling that even in India the police are able to trace every call and if this guy was doing some hanky panky on my phone - I would be in the soup.
By this logic noone would be dealing in business or friendship or any other term with any muslim or any group whose members are eyed with suspicion.
Maybe thats one reason why Kashmir's and Assam's business is in a slump. Perhaps for that reason cell phones were banned in these areas for long.
Could that be the case?
Umesh
