Hi,While reading Prof Reimers' article on Social Change and Education Reform ( http://gseacademic.harvard.edu/~reimers/Reimers2006EducationAndSocialProgressPp427-480_small.pdf ) and how the liberals in Latin America opposed role of Catholic Church in education --and promoted govt run secular education I was wondering how one can promote liberal thought in SOuth ASia or Middle East without facing the wrath of the traditionalists.In my opinion the best way is to hijack the position of the conservatives -- and become the voice of the conservatives -- loudly rejecting the ultra-extreme libreal psycho thoughts (such as lesbianism being the solution to house-wives drudgery -as promoted by Deepa Mehta in her movie "FIRE" in India http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116308/ ) --and promoting in the same breath -- the more moderate aspects of social reform. And going from step to step.Any comments?Umesh
