I am very pleased to see this young
Assamese writer, Dhruba Hazarika coming up and getting recognition. I have
not read the novel a but those who did tell that the novel captures the romance
of the by-gone Shillong days very accuratley. From his writing one can see that
he has his originality.( It was the code of
friendship. Like a bowstring: tight. Like an arrow: straight.
). I congratulate Dhruba for writing on such a local theme such as the Tir
Khel of the Kasis. (What a breadth of fresh air compared to present Assamese
writings such as "Arjun', 'Karna' etc). Dhruba did his schooling was
in St. Edmunds in Shillong which makes for his his good English. In the
AASU times, he was selected as the spokesperson for the AASU in
their dealing with GOI and drafting the Assam Accord etc. I just came
to know that Dhruba is a cousin of my Brother-In-Law from Shillong. I
am trying to contact him and find out his plan for the future. May be we can
bring him out here to take some course in creatinve writing to get a
boost.
