Why doesn't the govt try to improve the govt schools? Maybe becos most govt
schools are outside state capital and cities -away from dominant voters and
mass media whose kids go to private schools - like in Washington DC area.

GUWAHATI, March 16 – The All Assam Students Union on Friday burned copies of
the bill passed by the State Government to control the privately managed
schools alleging that the document had too many flaws.

The education secretary of the student body Dipanka Nath in a release issued to
the press has stated that the bill would not serve its purpose and will go
against the interest of the vernacular medium schools. “The AASU had pointed to
the drawbacks in the Bill but the Government went ahead with the statute
without removing the drawbacks,” he said warning that the student body would
resist any move by the Government that may be detrimental to the welfare of the
vernacular medium schools and called upon the Government to revoke the Bill at
the earliest.

All the district and sub-divisional units of the student body protested against
the Bill by burning its copies.
