Hi Netters:
Do you know that Pratham http://www.pratham.org/, the child-literacy program is
going to help the children in Assam that do not get a chance to go to school,
or better yet, do not know how to read or write at all? You all know what is
the condition there in India/Assam when it comes to child labor.
I read somewhere instead of giving gifts for birthday, wedding, anniversary
etc., etc. one can give to humanitarian causes like this - many of our youths
have requested to send the gift money for their wedding etc. to a charitable
cause - now I see the connection. Hats off to those kids that thought - for
thinking of those less fortunate ones instead of the traditional way of doing
'telir murot tel dhala' work.
Just thought I would let you know what I have been upto recently.
Also, have you heard (or are ready to contribute to) of the one laptop per
child program? http://laptop.org/vision/index.shtml. Won't it be wonderful if
that happens to all kids in the world, especially the kids that work in the
paddy field in Assam, who eventually "graduate" to work at the road-side
tea-stalls?
Well, this is all for tonight. More later.
Sincerely,
- Alpana B. Sarangapani
Spring, Texas.
