Year-long golden jubilee celebrations from Nov
GUWAHATI, Oct 11: The Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers
(India) is stepping into its 50th year of existence in November 2007. The State
Centre, enjoying a jurisdiction all over the North-east, has played a pivotal
role in furthering the cause of technical education and training, and has been
the hub of multifaceted activities over the years. The Centre is planning to
celebrate the golden jubilee during November 2007-November 2008 with a series
of meaningful programs — science and technology exhibition, seminars, out-reach
programmes, different programs amongst school children, international seminars
and few development programs. In fact, the activities could be much more
multifaceted with a clear focus on the socialite commitment of this premier
institution of the North-east, a press release stated.
The Institution of Engineers (India) is the largest professional body in the
World with almost 5 lakh corporate and non-corporate members. It is a premier
organization of engineers in the country engaged in the pursuit of promotion
and advancement of the science, practice and business of engineering in India.
The birth of Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India), took
place during the 409th meeting of the council held at Shillong on November 28,
1958. In post-independent India, Asom and the other States in the Northeast
also joined the rest of the country in its journey towards modern and
technological society. The State Centre has also its four local centres at
Shillong, Silchar, Agartala and Namrup (upper Asom). The Centre has played the
crucial role of bringing together the professionals from industry and academic
into a common platform for guiding and assisting the local Governments, civic
bodies and policy makers for implementation of different
technology for development of the State as well as the nation.
The jewel in the crown, of course, has been the successful organization of the
21st Indian Engineering Congress for the first time at Guwahati during 21-24
December last year which was lauded by the engineering fraternity of the entire
nation. During this mega-event, the centre also organized a science and
technology exhibition — Prayukti @prag — with a commitment to hold it every
year.
The golden jubilee year of the centre will begin with the second version of the
exhibition — prayukti @prag in a much wider scale incorporating diverse areas
for the benefit of all cross sections of the society to be held at the Assam
Engineering Institute playground at Chandmari from November 14 to November 19
this year.
