My note here has nothing to do with AVD2025 document. Out of curiosity, I am
asking the following question.
We Oxomiyas have the unique pronunciation "Xo" and we spend a lot of energy
trying to preserve it. It takes a non-native speaker a lot of work to acquire
it, and when they do they are proud of it.
Does any of the other major Indian langages have a letter or pronunciation that
is unique only to that language? Of the other Indian languages, I only know
Bengali and Hindi to some extent and these two do not have anything outside of
the root Sanskrit alphabet and the corresponding pronunciation. I would like to
know from the netters who live in India outside Assam. The languages from
southern India would be of special interest.
As you may guess, the next question would be - how do they convey the
pronunciation to non-natives.
Dilip
