Indian teacher baited by ‘playground mafia’

A Headteacher says she was hounded out of her job by a‘playground mafia. of 
prejudiced parents.
Sudhana Singh told a tribunal yesterday that one man said: ‘BloodyIndian woman 
should not be in charge of our children’.
Pupils were also overheard saying their parents ‘hatedblacks’ and a supporter 
of the popular head was branded a Paki lover’.
Mrs Singh - who has 20 years of teaching experience – saidthe parents at
Moorlands Primary school  in Tilehurst, Reading, had ‘deeply rooted racist 
views’.l 
The abuse caused her high levels of stress, anxiety and deepunhappiness’ and 
she received ‘no support’ from school governors when she wasbombarded with 
complaints and ‘malicious letters’.
Mrs Singh contacted Reading Borough council about the‘endemic’ racism at the 
school but, in an inquiry, they criticised her for  instilling a ‘climate of 
fear’.
Mrs Singh, who took over at Moorlands in 2009, often felt‘unsafe’ around the 
parents  and wasordered to take gardening leave. She went on to suffer 
depression and  miscarriage, the tribunal at Reading wastold. 
Mrs Singh is suing the governors and Readingborough council for bullying, 
harassment and race discrimination. The case willlast 15 days
