Jammu and Kashmir: A car blast rocked southern Kashmir on Thursday, killing one 
person and injuring 14 others including four security personnel, the Hindustan 
Times reports. The 27-year-old driver who was blown up in the blast was a 
resident of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Uttar Pragdesh: Barely two weeks after Samajwadi Party was voted to power in 
the state, party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav appealed to his party workers to 
gear up for the 2014 national polls, which he noted could be held ahead of

Bihar: On Thursday, Bihar completed 100 years since it was established. The 
centenary was marked by celebrations in the state capital, Patna. In 
pre-independence India, British carved out Bihar as a separate province in

Rajasthan: In an effort to ease the process of transferring and gathering 
information on arms licensing, the government of Rajasthan has proposed to make 
the arms licensing system available online (Daily Bhaskar). While the project 
is expected to ease the application process, it will also ensure that 
information about license-holders is accessible online, the newspaper reports.
Gujarat: Jewelers in the state have suffered losses of about 15,000 crore, or 
15 billion rupees, due to the nationwide strike by jewelers protesting the hike 
in custom and excise duties on gold, proposed in last week’s annual budget, 
Daily Bhaskar reports.
Maharashtra: The federal Health Ministry has released data that reports 69 
cases of swine flu in the state. A total of 129 cases have been reported, 
including 27 from Andhra Pradesh, 28 from Rajasthan and five from Karnataka. 
The report points out that 12 people died of the H1N1 virus during the first 
three weeks of March, including six from Maharashtra (Daily News & Analysis).
Odisha: Maoists have kidnapped a legislator from the state’s ruling party Biju 
Janata Dal. The incident follows the recent abduction of two Italian tourists, 
who have been held hostage by the Maoists for more than a week. For the release 
of the hostages the rebels have laid down 13 conditions, which include “a ban 
on the visit of tourists to the tribal areas; halt on anti Maoist operations, 
and release of several prisoners,” Odisha Today reports.
Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa took credit for India’s vote in 
favor of the United States-sponsored resolution before the United Nations Human 
Rights Council (UNHRC), promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri 
Lanka. She said the constant pressure she put on the central government through 
a state resolution, letters to the prime minister and demand by her political 
party’s legislators helped achieve the result (The Hindu).
Kerala: A veteran leader of the Left and an eminent parliamentarian died 
Thursday. C. K. Chandrappan, 76, the state secretary of the Communist Party of 
India, had been undergoing treatment for cancer. (The New Indian
