Subject: [FriendsofAssamNE] "The President's Letter" ----- the noble heart of
Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan

Dear friends,

It is nice to see Dibya's response yesterday to the February 9 appeal by Shri
M.P. Bezbaruah. It is very impressive to learn that the unfortunate incidents
of violence/discrimination against people of NE can be reported to police very
quickly by setting up a high-tech network.

The end result : the info will "go to Police for Action" without any loss of
time. It may be hoped that prompt police actions will deter the number of
incidents. However, if the goal is to extirpate the root cause of the trouble
which is essentially a deep-rooted racism, "too many police actions" may build
up hatred to defeat the purpose ---- if these are not balanced with other
sociological actions of improving the outlook of the perpetrators.

About five years back I published an article "The President's Letter" where I
portrayed the noble heart of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, President of India
in 1962-67, who blessed and guided the marriage of a young lady from the
mountains of Nagaland to a young man from Indian plains. Unfortunately, I've
lost my copy. If anyone can find that artice, kindly post it one more time. We
need positive examples like that of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan to lead the
country now.

With love to all,

Himendra Thakur

Sri Madan Bezbaruah
Chairman, Committee towards various Concerns about the people of NE

New Delhi

Sir,

Some professionals from NE have recently constituted one forum viz. NE
Professional's Forum ( viz. facebook like
https://www.facebook.com/groups/ne.professionals/) to discuss various issues
and provide solutions related with NE .

The unfortunate incident of the death of Nido Tania has shaken us and we
have been exploring some remedies to prevent such incidents.
That Sir, we do feel that Govt should immediately take a initiatives to
build up database to records all violence / discrimination towards people of
NE happening in major cities of India primarily Delhi, so that the gravity can
be analysis thoroughly and remedial actions can be taken immediately. We may
proceed to develop an Apps ( Windows, Android etc) for Mobile phones which is
downloadable from AppStore and whenever some of our affected people press the
apps, an alert msg with corresponding Geo-location ( say google maps) so go
to the server. The alert msg would simultaneously go to Police for Action.

That Sir, for your kind information, such steps have already been
initiated by some Private orgs/ NGOs after the unfortunate Nirbhay incident in
Delhi. So it won't be a difficult to replicate. But we may need one dedicated
server with applications so that the various data as received can be analysed
and take urgent actions. ,We may prepare the comprehensive proposal and it
would be a great help if you can kindly get it approved through DONER or other
agencies . We have sufficient experts to implement the project in time bound
manner .

Yours faithfully

Dear Friends,

You may be aware that subsequent to the very unfortunate death of Nido Tania
government of India have formed a committee to look into the various concerns
of the people of NE, the reasons behind such attacks and
violence/discrimination and to suggest measures including legal procedure to be
taken by the government to address such concerns.

I have been given the heavy responsibility as Chairman of the committee. Being
from the region, having grown up and worked in different parts of the region,
knowing the ethos, the agonies and the frustrations of the people over many
years, I approach my work humbly--with the hope that we can contribute
something to make things better in the future.

As friends of the NE I seek your help. FASS is a pool of great talent of the
region, of people with ideas and motivation and people who have experience of
the wide world. The committee will soon have a website. But even before that
any ideas, suggestions, advice can be sent to my personal email.

best wishes and expectations,

Health check-up camp concludes in Guwahati Press Club

Guwahati, February 6: No major ailment was reported among the media
persons who went for a daylong health check-up camp organized by down
town hospital today in Guwahati Press Club. However, most of the
participants in the health camp were diagnosed with gastrotriches,
back pain and spondylitis.
Over hundred participants joined in the health camp, where their BP,
blood sugar and also ECG & BMD were checked in need. Doctors from
different departments offered consultations to the participants.
In an earlier health check-up camp, organized by the down town
hospital last year, the physicians witnessed some absurd reading
regarding their blood pressure and blood sugar content. However this
time all the readings were comfortable for the participants.
Attending the camp for sometime the Chairman & Managing Director of
down town hospital, Dr. N.N. Dutta emphasized on regular health
check-up for media persons as they have irregular working hours, food
intake and excessive stress in their profession. Dr. Dutta also
announced a special 'friends of down town' health card for the media
person, which would facilitate them to get investigations and
treatments in down town hospital in a subsidized rate.
The attending doctors including Dr. R.K. Kalita (Surgery), Dr. Indra
Kuladhipati (Cardiologist), Dr. Rupam Das (Diabetologist), Dr. Swapnav
Borthakur (Medicine), Dr.Chetan Kabra (Orthopedic), Dr. Dhruba Jyoti
Dutta (E.N.T.), Dr. Harsh Vardhan Singh(E.N.T.), Dr. Monti Saha (
Obs. and Gynecology), Dr. Avinanda Mahanta (Resident Doctor), Dr.
Pranjal Gogoi (Physiotherapist) with Tinababy Baruah (Dietician)
interacted exclusively with the participants.
The nursing staff including Pranami Bordoloi (Nursing Educator), Tara
Chettri, Kiran Thapa, Monu Kumari, Balasuklang Nongrum, Badashisha
Dkhar, Vanessa Wahlang, Hemaprova Borah, Maphisha Marbaniang,
Idashisha Kharmalki, Rodiala Kharbuli etc and official staff including
Jahidur Rahman (Manager Marketing), Mayuri Borah (PRO), Sajal Sinha
(Marketing Officer), Pulakesh Gogoi (Marketing Executive), Ramen Boro
(ECG Technician) helped the physicians in their screening process.
Dr. Udayan Barua (Medical Superintendant), Mayurakshi Dutta (Executive
Director) and Gariasi Dutta (Psychological Counselor) also graced the
program for a brief period.

The Nagaon Friendship day, is an event to honor a few individuals who have been
contributing to Assamese society specially in the realm of Sankari culture.
These individuals, with their creativity, skill and dedication to the craft,
are keeping the great Sankari culture alive. They are more or less unknown in
public – the Nagaon Friendship day is an effort to pay tribute to these
dedicated individuals. We also hope that the event will stimulate interest
among the younger generation, inspire and promote youth involvement in
promoting our culture.
The event has been inspired by Guwahati Run and walk which was organized
successfully in the years 2012 and 2013. The organizer of these two events
Ankur Bora, based in Dallas, Texas, USA, requested Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti ,
Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva to host the 2014 event at Nagaon . The
proposal has been accepted by the Society and accordingly Nagaon Friendship Day
will be held in Nagaon as on 5th January 2014.
 Please find the event details.
