On page 4 of Amar Asom of 09-09-2015 carried an article on Abdul Majid by Dabira Sultana Ahmed who sailed in 1888 to UK on a government scholarship for higher studies. On the ship his companion was father of the nation Gandhiji. The writer is my elder sister. As the font of the print is not big and the text is not clear my brother-in-law sent me the four images of the text. For easy reading I made a PDF file and attached herewith. The original you will find at: http://www.amarasom.glpublications.in/epapermain.aspx?queryed=9&eddate=09%2f09%2f2015 2. In Amar Asom of today one of the readers published an article with additional information which was not available when the first article was published. It is also on page 4. The URL is: http://amarasom.glpublications.in/epapermain.aspx 3. Following Indian independence, the Chief Commissioner of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was the nominal head of the territory, appointed by the President of India. Inamul Majid, the eldest son of Abdul Majid was the first Chief Commissioner. He was the 2nd ICS of Assam. 4. His second son Maj. General Isfakul Majid was the 2nd Indian to join the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In 1947, Majid joined the Pakistan Army. In Pakistan Army he was promoted to the rank of Major General. He became the GOC of the 9 Division of the Pakistan Army. Majid was 2 years senior to Field Marshal Ayub Khan but Ayub Khan became the Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Army bypassing Major General Ishfakul Majid. Disappointed he moved to Bangladesh.
