Website on Assamese culture launched

GUWAHATI, Jan 3 - Aimed at rejuvenating Assamese culture and tradition, a 
website, www.asomiya-kristi.in, was formally launched in Jorhat today, an email 
received here stated.
The above was informed at a press meet held at the Jail Road-based Jorhat Press 
Club today.

The website was prepared by Dr Pradip Neog, noted researcher and writer of 
Assamese folk culture under the banner of Asomiya Kristi Bikash Trust.

The website offers a wide range of facilities like folk literature, including 
Naam Ghosha, besides a collection of over 3,000 Phokora-jojona, more than 4,000 
Bihu Naam, Dakor-Boson, besides a number of articles in English on Bihu 
festival and its related culture.

The facilities also include profile galleries on folk artistes, information on 
folk-based organisations, and the names of judges of various forms of folklore 
competitions of Assam.

E-books in Assamese, and uploading of varieties of folk music are some other 
facilities made available in the website. The site also offers provision for 
advertisement of Assamese traditional items.

An e-magazine titled Barnadhya covering various aspects of Assamese traditional 
culture will also be published just before the ensuing Bohag Bihu. A Discussion 
Fora on five crucial aspects of Assamese culture as Facebook pages is another 
initiative.

Dr Seuji Bora Neog is the Associate Director, while Dr Sajib Borua is the 
Publicity Secretary of the website, which is supported by a dedicated team of 
technical personnel. Significantly, Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora happens to be a 
distinguished trustee .
